Its been a while since we've made any major follow up. One issue we're sure everyone must have noticed is the unfortunate string of airline relateds tragedies which have been taking place globally for the past few weeks. 

Just recently we recieved news of a passenger airline crashing in Nepal.

Kathmandu: A Nepalese passenger plane heading for the Everest region with 15 people on board crashed in bad weather near capital Kathmandu early Tuesday, the home ministry said.

The small Agni Air plane was on its way to Lukla, a popular trekking spot in the Everest region of eastern Nepal, when it crashed about 15 miles (24 kilometres) south of Kathmandu, ministry spokesman Jayamukunda Khanal told AFP.

"The security forces have dispatched rescue teams, but the area is very remote and they have not yet reached the crash site," he said.

Just a few weeks before that we witnessed what had tobe the worst aviation tragedy in the history of the nation of Pakistan when a domestic airline crashed killing all passengers on board....(more)

Hey everybody this is a quick update - more like an elaborate thank you message for all the support we've been getting. Thanks to your confidence and support fltdata have now surpassed 600 members infact with the looks of it we'd be surpassing the number of facebook fans we have overnight as we speak and the numbers set to climb as we aim to make fltdata the one stop web depo for connecting with anyone aviation.

Apart from that this is a quick update to remind that the team at fltdata are now working on a number of new features for the maps section as well as working on fantastic new redesigns for the entire website.

In a couple of weeks you'd expect to see an entire makeover on fltdata much like never before. In the meantime do keep visiting fltdata and invite your collegues and friends to join up as well.

For all aviation lovers out there, its no news that the much awaited farnborough airshow has commenced for this year. The event takes place every two years and this year sets to be even bigger and better than the previous.

The first five days of the airshow are mostly trade days, followed by a weekend where the exhibition is opened for the public. FIA(Farnborough International Airshow) 2008, was a great year for business with US$88.7 billion worth of orders announced during the show. The event also featured 165 aircraft in static displays and spectacular flying displays and the public weekend attracted a staggering 153,000 visitors.

This years Farnborough International Airshow ( held from 19-25 July 2010) is certain to be the most exciting to date.  With its existing exhibition halls, flying displays and UAV pavilion, FIA 2010 will evolve its business theme to include a number of new networking initiatives such as a themed conference and seminar programme, a ‘Meet Your Buyer’ event and a day dedicated to International Futures for Youth.  Additionally, FIA 2010 will feature a dedicated ‘Space Zone’ and enhanced UAV presence....(more)

Its been a busy and exciting week here at fltdata for a number of reasons. The most exiciting biennial event in aviation ended a couple days ago. Although this years event didn't meet the records of FIA 2008 as reported by the PA:

The value of orders taken at the biennial Farnborough International Airshow this year is already in advance of 2006 but will fall well short of the record set in 2008, it has been revealed.

Orders for the 2010 show in Hampshire, which ends on Sunday, have so far reached 47 billion dollars (£31 billion).

They have included some big orders for Airbus planes, whose wings are made in the UK.

The team at fltdata has just again come up with a new addition, well not exactly a new addition but a reformation of an established module for all our members. Now once you sign up all members are equipped with their own log book/blog. Initially the blog was restricted to being visible under individual user and company profiles. Now however we've given the blogs a whole new look and a whole new name i.e the log book.

In the log book all the blog updates as well as the official news posts would be listed for easy reading. This opens up yet another avenue to promote your profile and company on fltdata. A chance to put your writing skills to work and let everyone know whats on your mind, what your plans are at work, any thoughts on how to make the skies a better place for flyers :) and so on - you now have a platform to voice your opinion amongst the right people.

In the coming days we should see some fantastic changes and modifications to fltdata being implemented and put into action. 

Aside that we're really grateful to our members for all the wonderful support and feedback. 

This has been an eventful week at fltdata, with news of the farnborough airshow starting and aviation enthusiasts flocking in droves to Hampshire for the event - we've also recorded a peak in visistors to fltdata.com. WHich is why we'd like to take this opportunity to thank again all of our members for helping everyone in the industry stay connected.

Getting on to our coverage of the farnborough airshow where we've seen some exciting innovations and great prospects for business amongst the leading names in the industry. After a dreadful recession its great to see companies finally taking off[pun intended]. According to this report from reuters Boeing was expecting significant orders owing to the farnborough airshow. The company flagged its new orders on the first day of the show from Dubai based Emirates Airlines and expects more orders in the week.

"Internally we've raised our forecast for the number of orders we would get this year twice," said Jim Albaugh, the chief executive of Boeing's Commercial Airplanes, told reporters. He said Boeing would announce a "significant number" of orders over the next couple of days. "This is going to be a good air show for us," Albaugh said. "This is going to be a good air show for Airbus as well." In additional to the Emirates order, Boeing said it took orders from the aircraft leasing arm of General Electric Co for 40 of the company's 737-800 planes with a list value of $3 billion. Later in the day, Boeing said it took an order from Norwegian Air for 15 737s. Airbus also won a large order from Air Lease Corp, recently set up by Steve Udvar-Hazy, the founder and former head of American International Group Inc unit ILFC. The company ordered 51 Airbus passenger jets from the A320 series. Airbus took an order for 60 planes from the GE unit. GE's entire order was worth about $8 billion.

Albaugh said he saw an "uneven" recovery in the global economy and the United States appeared to be lagging.

FIA has also seen the unveiling of sophisticated new weaponry such as the anti aircraft laser by the US Firm Raytheon. Exciting stuff with more in the pipeline.

Seeing that the world cup has come to a finale its hats off to Spain for their crunching win over Holland in the finals. Viva Espana!

What did get our attention however along with the excitement of the world cup was also the many bottlenecks and crowds that faithful fans had to battle through to get to the world cup from every corner of the globe. This particular news incident took our attention, apparently a great number of fans missed out on the semi finals because of overparking at the King Shaka Airport largely due to private aircrafts coming in. This resulted in six flights being missed for zealous fans of the World Cup. Now that is a sporting disaster.
